Carbon Law Partners kicks off 2023 with its Partner Practice Value initiative in action, as employment partner Matt Huggett acquires Rachel Clayfield’s practice upon her retirement.
Carbon employment law expert Rachel Clayfield is retiring from legal practice and taking advantage of the firm’s Partner Practice Value (PPV) scheme in transferring her business to fellow employment lawyer Matt Huggett.
The law firm launched their PPV initiative in 2019 to derisk retirement options for law firm partners and to create practice value and flexible routes to retirement.
Carbon Law Partners CEO Michael Burne said “At Carbon, what happens at retirement has always been central to our business model. As Rachel retires, she will transfer her practice to Matt in an agreed deal and clients will move over, ensuring client continuity and capital value for Rachel upon the exit of the legal business she has built.”
Rachel commented: “After thirty years practicing employment law, it’s time to take a well-earned retirement. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Carbon and am proud to be part of a community of lawyers which has not only restored my faith in the legal profession, but given me the flexibility that was unattainable in traditional private practice. I am delighted to be handing over my employment law practice to Matthew Huggett. I know Matt will provide a great service to my clients and give them the support and guidance they need for the future. I will continue with Carbon both as an Ambassador promoting the business whenever I can, and as a shareholder of Bamboo.”
It’s been an action-packed year for Matt who has not only acquired Rachel’s practice, but also took on the role as President of CILEX in 2022. We managed to get a moment of his time for this thoughts:
“Whilst I’m sorry to see Rachel retire so early, it’s great to know she will still be around for me to bounce ideas around with. I am delighted to be able to expand my employment law practice at Carbon through its PPV inititiave- and look forward to retiring myself one day!”
