James has a wealth of experience working in Commercial, Development and Investment Property. He also has considerable experience advising clients on Residential Property.

As well as working in several private practices, James has also worked in-house for a development company with a multi-million-pound property portfolio, specialising in the HMO industry, with other significant investments and interests.

TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT YOUR CAREER TO DATE / IN LAW?

I took my first job in law as a legal assistant at the age of 17, in a high street firm in Reading. I then trained in Clifton, Bristol, where I dealt with a vast range of commercial and residential property transactions, ranging from leases of high street units, development plot acquisitions and sales, and assisting on refinancing.

I then joined a property development company, specialising in buy to rent in the HMO sector on the south coast. I now wish to continue to serve longstanding clients, as well as actively seeking ambitious businesses, property owners and developers to assist with their legal requirements.

AND YOUR CLIENTS?

My clients tend to range from SME businesses in advising them on their leases, property developers on site acquisitions and subsequent plot sales, as well as property investors in acquiring investments and subsequent commercial lettings.

The one thing my clients do have in common is a desire to get results, which I intend to help with.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT BEING A LAWYER?

Providing clients with a result and ensuring they get value for money in the process. I thrive on client satisfaction, which I find is usually achieved through being proactive, responsive, and efficient throughout a transaction. The ultimate reward is getting a great outcome for the client at the end of a transaction, whether that be through achieving a tight timescale, or through navigating tricky circumstances.

WHAT DO YOUR CLIENTS LIKE ABOUT YOU AND THE WAY YOU WORK?

AND WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?

I can usually be found walking the dog around our home, in Bath, or playing 5-a-side football. I am also trying to get to grips with golf, despite being a complete beginner!

  • Exchanged on a £3.285m purchase within 4 weeks of Heads of Terms;
  • Completed on a sub-sale of a £1.7m purchase within 2 weeks of Heads of Terms;
  • Acted on leases on an industrial site worth several millions, subsequently to be developed in to 1000 residential units.
