Ivana Durovic

Solicitor Apprentice
Bristol

Describe your role and general skill set…

As a Solicitor Apprentice at Carbon Law Partners, I support legal partners across a range of practice areas by conducting legal research, drafting documents, and managing matters. My role requires close collaboration with legal professionals, attention to detail, and effective use of legal software, including Actionstep, to ensure the smooth operation of legal matters and client service delivery.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy supporting multiple partners across a variety of legal sectors as it gives me a variety of experience. I value playing a key role in enabling lawyers to focus on what matters most – delivering high-quality service to their clients. Behind every strong legal team is a well-organised and trusted support system, and I’m proud to be part of that at Carbon.

What attracted you to the firm?

Carbon Law Partners offers a fresh approach, with their priorities rooted in their culture (7Q). The work produced by everyone reflects their care and passion. The ability to gain legal experience and create healthy habits within a company that cares makes all the difference and will follow me throughout my career.

Describe Carbon in a maximum of three words:

Courage to Change.

Where do you envisage the firm in 5 years’ time?

In 5 years, I believe Carbon will have established itself as a key player in the legal field and a stencil for other firms to follow suit. Sector diversity will be key to Carbon’s success and make them stand out as a comprehensive, well-rounded legal business.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?

Like many teenagers, my first job was in customer service. It taught me the importance of clear communication and remaining calm under pressure. It also helped me build confidence in working with a wide range of people and finding practical solutions quickly.

What have been the highlights of your career to date? (can be non-Carbon)

While I believe the biggest highlights of my career are still ahead of me, there have already been several pivotal moments that have shaped me professionally. Earning my degree was a major achievement and gave me a strong foundation in the legal field. I have also really enjoyed my Legal & Compliance seat, as it has shown me how regulators, lawyers and client-facing teams interact in practice. My previous customer service experience has also been invaluable, helping me develop strong teamwork, communication skills and work ethic.

How do you unwind outside of work?

Outside of work, I unwind by spending time with family and friends, getting outdoors in nature, and switching off with a good series or book. I also really enjoy being creative, whether that is through photography, writing, baking or starting a new knitting project.

Where is your favourite place to visit?

My favourite place to visit is the Balkans. My family are from Serbia, Macedonia & Montenegro, so visiting them whilst also exploring all the beautiful nature these countries have to offer makes it a perfect mix of feeling at home whilst being on holiday.

What is your favourite Book, movie or TV Show?

It is very difficult to pick just one of each! I re-read A Christmas Carol every December, rewatch Coraline every October, and almost always have Friends playing in the background at home. I also enjoy a well-written crime drama or documentary, as I like stories that involve problem-solving, attention to detail and seeing different perspectives unfold.

Favourite Music, Artist or Band?

My music taste is quite varied, I have a Spotify playlist for every occasion! But my all-time favourite artists are Amy Winehouse, Olivia Dean and Fleetwood Mac. I used to DJ house music when I was at university, so I will always have a soft spot for that too.

If you could gain a new skill or superpower, what would you choose?

I would choose the ability to speak every language fluently. It would be incredibly useful both personally and professionally, and it would make it easier to connect with people from different backgrounds.

Do you have a bucket list place you’d love to visit?

I would love to go to Japan. It has always appealed to me because of its blend of tradition and modern life, beautiful scenery, and rich culture.

If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?

If I had a time machine, I would travel into the past to learn more about my ancestors. I find it fascinating to think about how they lived, what they valued, and the communities and traditions that shaped their lives, some of which continue to influence us today.

Tell us an interesting or little-known fact about yourself:

I am fluent in Serbian and am currently learning Macedonian!
