Tell us a bit more about your career to date and your experience in law.
My background is in administration and client service rather than law, but the skills I have developed over more than 10 years have given me a strong foundation for working in conveyancing. I have always had an interest in law, but for a long time I thought it was something I would have to pursue later in life, once my children were older.
I have recently started my Level 3 Paralegal qualification, which is the first step in my pathway towards becoming a property conveyancer. I am really enjoying learning the legal side of the work and, importantly, understanding how that knowledge translates into helping real clients through what can sometimes be a complicated and stressful process.
Working alongside Joanne has given me the opportunity to learn from an experienced property lawyer while developing my own skills and confidence. I am excited to continue building a long-term career in property law with Carbon.
Do you have a particular area of speciality?
I also have a understanding of military families and the realities of military life. As a military spouse, I understand that postings, deployments, changing circumstances and family commitments can add additional challenges to buying or selling a home. I want to make sure those clients feel understood as well as supported throughout their property journey.
What drew you towards Law?
I have always had an interest in law, but I thought it was something I would need to pick up when my children were older and didn’t need me as much. I was incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with Joanne Bowmer, who understands military family life and has given me the opportunity to build a career while still being there for my family.
Joanne has been a huge support and has believed in me from the beginning. She has encouraged me to push myself because she knows I am capable of more, and that has given me the confidence to take the next step and formally train in law. I am now building a career in an area I genuinely enjoy, while gaining hands-on experience and working towards becoming a property conveyancer.
And your clients?
I support residential property clients who are buying, selling or moving home, helping to make the conveyancing process feel as clear and manageable as possible.
For residential property clients:
I help clients navigate the practical side of their property transaction by keeping communication flowing, helping to organise information and making sure they have a friendly and approachable point of contact. Buying or selling a property can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, particularly when there are lots of people and moving parts involved. I aim to make the process feel less daunting by being responsive, organised and available to help wherever I can.
For military families:
I also support military personnel and their families who are buying or selling property. Having experienced military family life myself, I understand that postings, deployments, changes in circumstances and the demands of service life can make moving home even more complicated. I bring that personal understanding to my work and want military clients to feel that they are dealing with someone who genuinely understands the realities of their lives, as well as someone who is there to help keep their property transaction moving.
What do your clients like about you and the way you work?
I think clients tend to feel at ease when they meet me because I am approachable, straightforward and genuinely interested in helping them. I want clients to feel that there is a real person at the other end of the phone who knows who they are and understands what they are trying to achieve.
I am organised, determined and not afraid to get stuck in. My role is about keeping things moving, communicating clearly and making sure clients feel supported throughout the process. I take a lot of pride in being someone clients can rely on.
What do you enjoy about being a lawyer?
I am still working towards becoming a lawyer, but what I already enjoy most about working in property is being part of such an important moment in someone’s life.
There is something really rewarding about seeing a client go from the initial excitement, nerves or uncertainty of buying or selling a property through to the moment they finally get the keys. Every transaction teaches me something new, and I enjoy learning, solving problems and seeing the difference that good communication and support can make to someone’s experience.
And when you are not working?
When I am not working, I am Mum to my four beautiful girls, so life is usually pretty busy! We have dance parties in the kitchen, movie nights, walks with our crazy Springer Spaniel and plenty of time spent simply being together.
I also enjoy meeting up with friends, spontaneous trips away and settling down with a good book.
What makes you happy?
My family. They are the reason I work hard and the reason building a career that works alongside family life is so important to me.
Tell us a little-known fact about yourself.
I love baking and am definitely a feeder! I regularly bake cakes, cookies and brownies, and my latest challenge is learning to bake bread.
