Carbon is delighted to welcome Tom Browne, whose arrival brings more than 30 years of experience in dispute resolution and employment law to the firm.
Tom advises a diverse range of clients, from private individuals and owner‑managed businesses to senior executives and professionals. His work spans a broad range of disputes, including property and landlord and tenant matters, commercial litigation, contentious probate, construction disputes, debt recovery and enforcement, professional negligence and residential possession claims.
Alongside this, Tom has a well‑established employment practice, advising on disciplinary and grievance procedures, settlement agreements, negotiated exits and employment tribunal claims, as well as providing wider HR and employment support.
A defining feature of Tom’s approach is his emphasis on early, practical resolution. He is a strong advocate of mediation and alternative dispute resolution and believes court proceedings should be a last resort rather than a starting point. By focusing on clear advice, proportionality and keeping clients informed at every stage, Tom helps prevent disputes from becoming entrenched in costly and uncertain litigation.
Tom’s expertise has also been recognised at a national level. He was featured in the BBC Panorama programme “Fighting for an Education” and has been interviewed by BBC South East News and BBC Radio 5 Live on issues relating to residential possession claims.
He holds an MA from Trinity College Dublin and a Diploma in Advanced Litigation, and is a member of the Property Litigation Association, the Employment Lawyers Association and the Society of Construction Lawyers.
Outside his professional work, Tom enjoys keeping active and making time for the simple pleasures in life, from cycling and swimming to theatre, cinema and travelling.
A lesser‑known fact is that he once represented Ireland in international croquet, competing in World Championships and Home Internationals, and captained the Middlesex croquet team.
At Carbon, Tom advises clients across employment law, HR and employment matters, and both commercial and private dispute resolution.
